Hi, I’m Bethany. As a learning scientist and leadership coach, I specialize in the science of change—and I’ve seen where growth gets stuck, even with talented coaches, leaders, and development professionals.

My work has taught me a clear lesson: information doesn't create transformation, practice does. We've been taught to treat growth like a seminar when it should be approached like a laboratory—a place to test, learn, and iterate.

That’s why I created The Growth by Design Learning Lab. This is not another course; it’s a hands-on lab where we use an evidence-based framework of motivation science and design thinking to run small, effective experiments on your own growth goals.

  2. 📅 A 60-Minute Coaching Lab Call: During the last week of each month, join us for the coaching lab Zoom call, a professionally facilitated session designed for application of the book’s concepts. All calls are recorded and shared.

  3. 📄 A Takeaway Action Plan: Receive a concise summary of the key takeaways and a simple framework to turn your insights into a concrete plan for the month ahead.

  • The books are intentionally curated into a seasonal "growth curriculum." As the facilitator, I pre-select a slate of powerful, actionable books for the upcoming quarter to ensure a cohesive and high-impact learning journey.

    Towards the end of each season, current members of the Lab are invited to vote on a curated shortlist of books for the next season. This collaborative process ensures our curriculum is always relevant while maintaining a clear, strategic direction.

  • The books we explore in the Lab are chosen to build a bridge between deep human insight and practical, everyday systems. Our curriculum is directly shaped by the topics that matter most to growth-minded professionals. I’m curating books inspired from data I received from an initial survey in my email community.

    For example, since Habits and Behavior Change is a cornerstone of any successful growth plan, we might dive into a book like James Clear's Atomic Habits to build the fundamental operating system for any change you want to make.

    From there, we explore how these systems directly apply to leadership and coaching. We could tackle Michael Bungay Stanier's The Coaching Habit, which is a set of powerful, actionable coaching habits for leaders, or explore Brené Brown's Dare to Lead to understand the courageous behaviors required to build trust.

    Or we might explore a book like Adam Grant's Think Again to cultivate the mental flexibility needed to build new habits in the first place.

  • This coaching lab is for anyone who is serious about their personal and professional development. While many of our members are in formal leadership positions, the principles we explore—like building better habits and applying insights from books—are universal. If you are committed to growing by design, you will fit right in.
